INTRODUCING... Dr. Siva Subramanian
Dr. Siva was born in India (quite a few years ago!) and came to the USA in 1971. He is board certified in Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. He joined Georgetown University in 1974. He is currently Professor of Pediatrics & Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Chief of Neonatology in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Georgetown University Hospital (GUH). Published more than 100 articles, abstracts, and scientific presentations nationally and internationally. Research interests include infant mortality reduction in Washington D.C. among minority populations, trace element metabolism in infants, neonatal immunology, interfaith and education, and bioethics. Recipient of NIH grants for the last 17 years continuously including RO1 and for another 5 years through 2009. Numerous other research grants totaling more than $10 million dollars. Teaches at Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC) about Pediatrics, Neonatology, Bioethics, Religious Traditions in Health Care, and Complimentary & Alternative Medicine (CAM). Served in Institutional Review Board, Dean’s Council on Bioethics, Senior Ethicist at GUH, Faculty Associate at Kennedy Institute of Ethics, Chairman of Hospital Ethics Committee, Chairman of Pediatric Ethics Committee, Member of Research Committee, and Committee on Appointment and Promotion at GUMC. Featured in a cover article on “Preemies” in Newsweek, Washingtonian Magazine, and on the cover of GUMC web magazine. Honored as Teacher of the year by GUMC. Member of the Board of Advisors to the National Youth Leadership Forum. Founder Chairman of Sri Siva Vishnu Temple (1976), Founder Co-Chair of the Association of Hindu Jain Temples of Metropolitan Washington DC (1990), and Founder Member of the Council on Hindu Temples of USA (1984). Helped to unite the temples in Metropolitan Washington D.C. and guided the group to join the Interfaith Conference (IFC). Vice President of IFC and currently co-leader of the Faith Group Leaders of IFC. Involved in Interfaith education and dialogue. Went to Tamilnadu, India after the tsunami to assess and help out the victims. Collected donations and sent it to various NGOs to help the children and women. Continues to direct relief efforts. Immediately after 9/11, participated in several interfaith activities in churches, synagogues, and other places. Along with Cardinal McCarrick, presented a reconciliation meeting at the Gaston Hall at Georgetown University. Just returned from New Orleans after visiting Katrina-affected areas. He is listed in Who’s Who in America, …the World, … American Education, and …Science and Engineering. Dr. Siva lives with his spouse of 31 years, Kalyani, and their three children, Ramya, Rajeev, and Ranjan. |
