INTRODUCING...

photoMichael J. Goggin

Michael J. Goggin earned his BSFS degree from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. in 1992. He spent 6½ years as Youth Minister and Coordinator of Adolescent Faith Formation at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Community in Derwood, Maryland. During that time and subsequently, he received the Outstanding Adult Leadership Award from the Archdiocese of Washington (1999), two youths in his program were named Outstanding Female Catholic Youth by the same organization (2000 and 2004) and the program he created was mentioned in the book Excellent Catholic Parishes: The Guide to Best Places and Practices (Paulist Press, 2001). In the spring of 2005, Mike completed his MA degree in Theology with a concentration in Word and Worship at the Washington Theological Union.
Mike currently serves the InterFaith Conference of Metropolitan Washington (IFC) as Assistant Director. He previously served the same organization as Director of High School & College Interfaith Programs and the Congregational Partnerships Project. He has drawn on his experiences in the latter position to contribute a chapter to the book Building the Interfaith Youth Movement: Beyond Dialogue to Action (Rowman & Littlefield: March 2006.) In June of 2006 at Vancouver, B.C., Mike was elected President of the North American Interfaith Network (NAIN), an umbrella group of 65 interfaith organizations in Canada, the United States and Mexico. At age 36, he became the youngest person to hold that position in the twenty year history of the organization. He was previously Secretary and Young Adult Chairperson for the same group.
Locally, Mike chaired the Worship Committee at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Georgetown for two years (2002-2004) and remains active at St. Francis as a Lector, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at Mass and to the Homebound, Prayer Writer and member of the Liturgy Committee. Mike married the former Marites Del Rosario on December 18, 2004 at Holy Trinity.
