Jerome Barry, Baritone, one of America's most versatile performing artists, was born in Boston, Massachusetts. Lukas Foss referred to the noted Baritone as "a rare phenomenon." Barry received a B.A. from Northeastern University in Modern Languages and a M.A. from Tufts University in Languages and Literature. He studied concurrently at Boston Conservatory, Boston University School of Fine and Applied Arts, and attained a diploma from the Goethe Institute in Germany. He began his studies in Italy and attended Santa Cecilia Conservatory of Music in Rome, Italy. His teachers in Italy included Romeo Arduini, Luigi Ricci and Paolo Silveri. He made his debut in Italy in the role of Sharpless in "Madama Butterfly" and went on to sing over 120 performances in German opera houses and later sang many roles in the Israel National Opera. In Israel he sang more than 300 concerts, including recitals, oratorios, opera and orchestral concerts. He sang with the Israel Philharmonic, Jerusalem Symphony and the Israel Festival. His name became synonymous with versatile programs that contain diverse elements such as humor, pathos, drama, poetic diction and beauty of tone. Upon his return to the United States, he continued his career giving recitals in many prestigious concert halls, singing with the Boston Pops, the Baltimore and National Symphonies and many other orchestras and opera houses. In addition, his recital career has spanned the United States and fifteen different countries. His performance credits also include Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall, and the Helsinki Festival. His recording credits include CBS Records, Premier Recordings, Inc., recordings of the National Radio and Television Stations of numerous countries. The Baltimore Sun hailed a performance saying"...interpreted with refinement and sensitivity by Mr. Barry, his phrasing marked by ease and gracefulness, tone quality warm and bumished ... communicating a sense of joy-triumphant!" He has given master classes all over the world, is a laureate of the McClosky Institute of Voice and has been on the faculties of Tel Aviv University, Northeastern University, Tufts University, the University of Maryland, and American University. He co-founded the Washington Music Ensemble in 1981 and has produced hundreds of concerts with music of 20 countries. Mr. Barry is a Bösendorfer artist. He is currently senior associate of vocal enhancement at The George Washington Medical Center, Department of Otolaryngology Voice Treatment Center and at the Department of Speech and Hearing at the University. He gave the first concert at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington and has sung in Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck and has toured 15 countries in concert.
