Veteran television host and best selling author Dennis Wholey has been interviewing politicians, celebrities, newsmakers, authors, journalists, and experts from all walks of life for more than 30 years. Wholey brings all of his broadcasting experience to PBS television stations and cable networks across the United States and around the world with his unique, weekly, roundtable conversation show, "This is America with Dennis Wholey".
Wholey began his interviewing career on "The Age of Involvement" on listener sponsored WBAI-FM. After a successful stint as a freelance host on the local New York PBS station, WNET-TV, he joined the staff there as a host/producer of various series and specials. After two years, he moved to commercial television hosting "12 NOON", a local morning show for WKRC-TV in Cincinnati. "The Dennis Wholey Show", a daily, nationally syndicated talk/variety show for "Taft Broadcasting" and "The Generation Gap", an ABC-TV network night time game show, followed a year later.
Wholey hosted a variety of television specials and series for WABC-TV, WOR-TV, WCBS-TV, and radio shows for WHN in New York and the CBC in Canada. Wholey then located to WXYX-TV in Detroit where he hosted the number one morning show in the market, "A.M. Detroit with Dennis Wholey", before moving to Washington, DC where he co-hosted "Morning Break" for the POST NEWSWEEK station and then filed pieces for ABC’s "Good Morning America".
Wholey rejoined public broadcasting with "Feedback" on WTVS in Detroit, and then earned national recognition for four years as a critically acclaimed television interviewer with the award winning, nightly, PBS telephone/talk series, "Latenight America".
During this time Wholey began a second career as an author. His first book, The Courage to Change: Personal Conversations about Alcoholism, appeared on the New York Times best seller list for six months. With the desire to continue writing, Dennis left television and produced two more books, Are You Happy?: Some Answers to the Most Important Questions in your Life and Becoming Your Own Parent: The Solution for Adult Children.
Wholey revived LATENIGHT AMERICA as a weekly, two-hour Saturday night series for PBS and moved the show to Washington and wrote his fourth book, When the Worst That Can Happen Already Has: Conquering Life’s Most Difficult Times. He also established his own production company, DENNIS WHOLEY ENTERPRISES, INC., and has created and hosted three additional national television series for PBS stations: AMERICA: PERSONAL CONVERSATIONS WITH DENNIS WHOLEY, DENNIS WHOLEY’S AMERICA, now THIS IS AMERICA WITH DENNIS WHOLEY.
Dennis’ newest book is The Miracle of Change: The Path to Self-Discovery and Spiritual Growth.
